IGGY POP AND THE STOOGES
Debuting in 1969, The Stooges helped lay the groundwork for a generation of punk rock acolytes and imitators. The band made a name for themselves with some of the most outrageous stage performance ever teaming copious nudity and front-man Iggy Pop's bizarre ritual of self-mutilation via glass shards. Pop's friendship and create partnership with English musical icon David Bowie would prove instrumental in driving the band from critical no-name to punk rock cornerstone. The Stooges influence would be seen in other influential punk acts including the Sex Pistols and The Damned, both covering band originals. While Pop would separate and go on to further the success in the 1980's, the Stooges imprint of the 1970's would continue to influence Rock n' Roll for decades.
