NEW YORL DOLLS
In 1971, the New York Dolls entered the music scene combining the skills of singer David Johansen, guitarists Johnny Thunders and Sylvain Sylvain, and bassist Arther“Killer”Kane. The Dolls novel fusion of proto-punk and glam rock elements would prefigure common themes of the punk rock era and much later, popular hard rock.
After gaining management and attracting industry interest, the band got a break when Rod Stewart (THE FACES) invited them to open for him at a London concert, attracting an audience which included the likes of David Bowie.
The band's label, Mercury, dropped the Dolls not long after the second album. In 1975, foundering in drug abuse and interpersonal spats, the band briefly recruited Marcolm McLaren as their new manager. While McLaren's provocative stunts had worked for the Sex Pistols, they largely failed to achieve their intended results stateside and blew up in the Dolls' faces.
Despite relatively weak commercial success, the band impact persisted influencing a whole era of musicians and bands including Kiss, Blondie, The Clash, Ramones, and The Damned.,/p>
